Bishop Grosseteste University (BGU) is known as one of two public universities in Lincoln, England. BGU was founded as a teacher training college for the Diocese of Lincoln in 1862. The University also gained taught degree awarding powers in 2012 and was granted full university status on 3 December 2012. It has around 2,300 full-time students enrolled in a variety of programs and courses.
Eligibility Criteria
The applicant must meet up with the following eligibility criteria to apply for the scholarship:
The candidate must be an international student.
Must be a citizen of or have been granted refugee status by an eligible Commonwealth country, or be a British Protected Person
Must be permanently resident in an eligible Commonwealth country
Be available to start their academic studies in the UK by the start of the UK academic year in September/October 2021
Must hold a first degree of at least upper second class (2:1) standard, a second class degree, and relevant postgraduate qualification (usually a Master’s degree).
Not have studied or worked for one (academic) year or more in a high-income country (for CSC purposes, this is classified as a country that does not appear on the DAC list of ODA recipients (click here for more information)
Be unable to afford to study in the UK without this scholarship (note applicants will have to be able to evidence they have the financial resource to support their living expense during their period of study)

Entry Requirements
- Must meet the general country or study curriculum entry requirement.
- You must show English language skills and meet the general admission criteria following the country/curriculum you studied.
- A minimum IELTS score of level 6 with a minimum of 5.5 across all sections. Students with a score of Level 5.5 with a minimum of 5.5 across all sections can gain entry to a course but will be required to take part in a program of in-sessional support, which will be subject to a further fee of £750.
Visa Requirements
The UK government recently introduced a new route for students, replacing the Tier 4 General visa that you may be familiar with. The Student route improves on the previous Tier 4 route making for a more streamlined experience for international students wishing to study in the UK. To apply for a student visa, students must first be issued with a CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Study) number.
